Why formals for an interview?

It is rightly said, ”The first impression is the best impression” or “The first impression is the last impression”. Your looks and attire are the ones that are going to work for you in this case. The first judgment an interviewer makes is on seeing your look. That’s why, in many cases, it is still important to dress professionally for a job interview, regardless of the work environment.

What’s the apt dress code for an interview?

To conquer that first impression to be a great one you need to concentrate on dressing up neatly. In short, the candidate dressed in a formal outfit will create a good impression than the candidate dressed in casual jeans and a t-shirt.

Your interview attire:

Men and women have their own choice of formals. Solid colours generally are appreciated for a suit or a skirt or women’s/men’s formal trousers, teamed up with a light coloured shirt. When it comes to formal dressing the other accompanying accessories are belt, tie, watch, socks, leather shoes.

Now apart from these care should be taken on self grooming too which creates a good impression. Try with a neat clean shave, trimmed nails and a simple and neat hairstyle. Avoid too much oiling of your hair. For women, it would good if you avoid using too much jewellery, perfume and makeup. A light touch up before the interview with a sober lipstick (if you are using one) can do. Women should wear neat skirts which can keep them comfortable while they are seated throughout the interview.

If the industry is a less professional one then it’s fine to check with the person scheduling your interview. However, it’s still important not to dress the way you wish.
